Jio played the master role in making the 4G services cheap in the country by outplaying all the other network operators with its cheap and/or free plans.
With the increasing 4G customer base in the country, Jio is all set to make it even more affordable.
Though Jio has already made many affordable 4G devices available in the market, they are looking forward to take the game one level higher by introducing a smartphone for only Rs 1500 so that almost everyone can have access to the internet.
According to the reports, Jio is in touch with Techchain, FortuneShip and Uniscope, for affordable devices. The talks with the Chinese companies are at an early stage, and Jio will need samples of the Chinese devices before making it available for sale.
Jio might look to introduce CDMA devices to prevent its users from switching to other networks.
Jio has already crossed 100 million subscribers and is looking to convert them into permanent users. Besides Jio, Karbonn is also looking to introduce cheap 4G phones around the price range of Rs 3000.
Jio is also in close talks with Spreadtrum Communications, who has a two-year contract with Reliance Jio to supply Chinese smartphones to them.
Spreadtrum Communications is the same company which supplied Flame 5 and other Flame devices in the market.
As flagships are getting cheaper and cheaper, the phones are getting better. There is a high expectation that the introduction of Rs 1500 smartphone will help Jio cover the customer base who were without smartphones. Selling the cheap phones will also help them to increase the customer base for Jio. If everything goes well, then people can see cheap affordable phones in the market soon.
