Madurai: A youth from Madurai has been arrested by the police for posting abusive comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook.
The youth, who is an alleged supporter of actor Vijay, was arrested by Srivilliputhur town police. According to media reports, the arrest of the individual is in connection with the standoff between state BJP leaders and fans of the actor Vijay over the recent film Mersal.
It is no secret that some of the dialogues and some references to the Goods and Service Tax (GST) have upset the sentiments of some of the leaders, thus stoking a massive controversy.
It has been learnt that state BJP district secretary K Marimuthu filed a complaint with the police, stating that someone by the name Sachin Thiru had posted derogatory messages about the PM on his Facebook page.
The user had reported said the PM would be taught a lesson. The police said the comments were posted between October 23 and 29, and subsequently narrowed their search to Ramakrishanpuram. They finally nabbed S Thirumurugan just a few days after the complaint.
